Pending the season (and unlike many Australian states, Tasmania does have seasons), this comfortable open-plan space is kept heated or cooled to a comfortable temperature thanks to the reverse-cycle air-conditioning system and wood fire heater. Its neutral polished floors, high ceilings and timber paneled walls create a welcoming country ambience, enhanced by the quaint bear footprints which pad around the room.

The furniture is an eclectic combination of antique and retro timber tables and chairs and stuffed lounges, providing an array of comfortable seating spaces. The walls are lined with a fabulous selection of books for your reading enjoyment and unique souvenir items, which you won’t find at all the other stores. Sports fans will appreciate the large-screen TV and Fox Sports channels.

So why is it called a coffee lounge? New owners Leanne and Ross love a good coffee! As a part of the December 2013 refurbishment works, they purchased a fabulous new coffee maker and sourced a brilliant blend (dark-n-stormy) from a small, boutique coffee roaster in Melbourne. They also added a Blackheart Sassafras bench at the front window, creating the perfect place to sit, sip and admire the view.

During the day it operates as a café, selling light meals and refreshments for guests and visitors alike. The menu changes daily and focusses on delivering excellent value for money hearty meals, made with the best quality, local Tasmanian produce. Complement your meal with a hot or cold beverage.

The Bears’ communal coffee lounge / café is the perfect place to relax and unwind, while planning the next step of your Tasmanian adventure.
