The Property – The Bears

There’s a reason The Bears is in prime position in Geeveston, this historic building was the town’s first (and for a long time only) bank. Built in the early 20th century under the ownership of the Commercial Bank of Australia, the property continued its life as a bank right up until 10 September 1993. It was converted to a bed-and-breakfast in 2003 and current owners took possession of the property in late 2016, undertaking a renovations and ‘New Look’ of the guest rooms and Tapas & Wine Bar to improve amenities, customer comfort, service and facilities.

This boutique accommodation property has Five (5) guest rooms and retains many of its original features, including high ceilings, casement windows and leadlight doors and windows. The soft furnishings and eclectic combination of antique and retro furniture add to the sense of country charm. The property’s floor plan is both spacious and functional.

Perfectly positioned as a base for touring southern Tasmania and the Huon Trail, The Bears is also adjacent to a large, grassy common, complete with its own platypus walk, where you are guaranteed to see these shy critters on a daily basis.

New Ownership

The new owners bring their extensive hospitality, tourism and customer service experience to the property, enhancing the ambience and style of the rooms and the communal space. They also bring their love of good coffee, hearty food and extensive knowledge of food intolerances, literally, with the expansion of café and Tapas & Wine Bar.
